Obstetrics and Gynecology

Also called OB/GYN. While OB/GYN is considered one specialty, it comprises two distinct subspecialties:

  • Obstetrics (the OB) involves care during pre-conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and immediately after delivery.
  • Gynecology (the GYN) involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive organs. It also specializes in other women’s health issues, such as menopause, hormone problems, contraception (birth control), and infertility.
